Cinco celebration (Granite City Press-Record)

Cindy Garcia of Troy dances Saturday at the annual Mexican Honorary Commission's Cinco de Mayo celebration at River's Edge in Granite City. The event, which celebrates the Mexican Army's victory over French troops at the battle of Pueblo east of Mexico City on May 5, 1862.

An estimated 1,200 to 1,500 people showed up to celebrate Cinco de Mayo Sunday in the Plaza. The annual event, which is hosted by La Luz Center, raises scholarship money for the organization. There was plenty of entertainment and food for Plaza-goers.
