New laws are intended to benefit gays

A handful of new state laws went into effect this year that extend or create protections and opportunities to individuals who identify themselves as gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender — from anti-bullying laws to laws that provide same-sex unions the ability to become officially annulled.
