When news broke on April 29, 2008 that the House of Representatives had thrown out the Freedom of Information Bill, Nigerians felt embarrassed that a House that was investigating past administration over the money spent on power projects, could be such in a haste to throw away one legislation that would have eased their over-sight function of the executive arm of government.

In what appears to be full on grandstanding and empty on altruism, the famed power sector probe, while opening the eyes of Nigerians to the dangers inherent in the collapse of the energy sector as made manifest by the dismally low level of power generation in Nigeria, may actually be a distraction of sorts, even making the energy situation in Nigeria worse than it should be.
