In celebrating the most American of holidays, Nazar Taleghani will do what many other Americans do: grill some hamburgers. Yet the family cookout on Friday will also include tastes of his native land (lamb kebabs, anyone?) as well as his wife's (how about a brat?).

WASHINGTON----The first observance of Labor Day is believed to have been a parade of 10,000 workers on Sept. 5, 1882, in New York City, organized by Peter J. McGuire, a Carpenters and Joiners Union secretary.
