MEMPHIS -- Chattanooga's Neil Spitalny finished third here Thursday in the TGA State Senior Amateur Championship at the Windyke Country Club-East. Germantown's Larry Dupree took the title at 1-under 215 (70-74-71).

Canadian amateur champion Nick Taylor of Abbotsford has been named to Canada's team in the 2008 World Amateur Golf Team Championship in Adelaide, Australia.

Crookston's own Travis Ross narrowly missed qualifying for one of the biggest golf tournaments. In his attempt to qualify for the U.S. Amateur Championship on Tuesday at Windsong Farm, Ross was three strokes away from automatically making the championship, and he was only separated from the playoff by two strokes. However, it was not meant to be.
