An excessive heat watch remained in effect for most of the Bay Area and the National Weather Service advised residents to prepare for record-setting temperatures that were expected for parts of the region through Friday.

The Bay Area Air Quality Management District announced that today (Thursday) is a Spare the Air day, although public transit will not be free. Expected unhealthy ozone levels prompted the air district to issue the advisory, which urges local residents to drive less and reduce their energy use.
