On Wednesday Plush has Los Angeles' Imaad Wasif with Two Part Beast, which has this sometimes heavy, spiraling psychedelic sound that can just as easily morph into gentle acoustics. Opening is California's trippy El Olio Wolof, which weaves intricate, storybook lyrics with breezy melodies.

Moorpark College's summer production of Stephen Sondheim's "Merrily We Roll Along" goes well beyond the basic Hey, let's put on a show!' concept. This is complex material in its music and lyrics, and in its time-regressive plot that takes a trio of friends from the 1970s to the '50s. Along the way, it unravels the tangle of how and where their youthful idealism lost its compass.
