Shands at the University of Florida has installed the state's first 320-detector row CT scanner, a $2.5-million diagnostic tool that has the potential to detect stroke and heart disease in minutes. Shands said the device replaces dozens of other tests, which can take hours.

AVENTURA | Police arrested a 19-year-old man after they said they stopped him for a traffic violation at the Shell gas station, 20500 Biscayne Blvd., and then found a credit card scanning device inside his car at 4:30 a.m. Sept. 27. The man told police he was given the device to steal credit card numbers at Q lounge, 3575 NE 207th St., where he works.
